Margie Eubank

In 1957, Margie Eubank, then a young mother, began a job at the Richmond law firm of Rice, Schaffer and Keith in the real estate department. All three of those attorneys are now deceased, but Margie is still preparing the paperwork for real estate transactions at Taylor and Walker. Her experience in handling these detailed transactions is invaluable to the attorneys she works for.

Learning her job from the ground up means she understands the reason something is done the way it is, not just the end result. While dealing with real estate agents, mortgage brokers, title insurance agencies, lenders, insurance companies, and sometimes relocation companies, Margie makes sure that the interests of the firm’s client are always uppermost in her mind. “There is no room for error when preparing closing documents,” she says. “I have to make sure that what I do is 100% correct because it will have to be approved by several different entities before and after closing. We don’t want any surprises! Real estate matters are generally the largest financial transaction people are involved with in their lifetime, and one they know little about when they first get into it. Commercial loans sometimes involve larger amounts of money, but a couple’s first home purchase is just as important,” she declares.

Married to her husband Charlie for 43 years before he passed away in 1991, they had one daughter who now lives in Myrtle Beach. Margie considers her co-workers to be part of her extended family and always keeps a supply of candy available in her office for anyone who wants to drop in. Her days are busy at work, but she finds time occasionally to indulge in her favorite hobby, playing Bingo on the weekends with long time friends.

Over 50 years dealing with the paperwork of real estate transactions would be more than enough for most people, but Margie declares, “I guess I’ll just keep doing it as long as I can. I enjoy it—most days!”
